Your World Issue on Agricultural Biotechnology Now Available
A new issue of Your World: Biotechnology & You, the Institute's biotechnology education magazine, is now available for online at no cost. The issue focuses on agricultural biotechnology and was published in partnership with CropLife International, a global federation representing the plant science industry. The magazine is an ideal tool for reaching teachers, students, farmers, and lay audiences. Program Applications Being Accepted
Applications are now being accepted for the Biotechnology Institute's leading programs. The National-Biotechnology Teacher-Leader Program, the flagship professional development program for teachers, is accepting applications until Jan. 25, 2010. The Biotechnology Institute is also accepting applications for presenters at Best Practices Day. The nation's leading biotechnology educators on May 2 will be sharing high quality educational practices and programs with 200 Illinois science educators and participants in the National Biotechnology Teacher- Leader Program. The sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge, an annual competition for high school students that recognizes outstanding research in biotechnology, is accepting applications until January 15, 2010. Building Biotech Bridges Conference Held
The Biotechnology Institute on Nov. 17 held "Building Biotech Bridges," a conference that highlighted how the biotechnology and education communities are working together to address science education and workforce development needs. Panel presentations and interactive discussion showcased best practices and case studies of successful biotechnology education projects at the local, regional, and national level. The keynote speaker for the conference, which was co-hosted by the MdBio Foundation, was Rep. Vernon J. Ehlers (R-MI.)

BioDreaming Poster Winners Announced
The Lilly BioDreaming Poster Competition Awards Ceremony, held Nov. 17 at the Naval Heritage Center in Washington, DC, during the Building Biotech Bridges Conferences (see below), culminated a national competition among K-12 students to create posters that illustrate biotechnology's immense potential to heal the sick, feed the hungry, restore the environment, and fuel the economy. The winners were Vijeyta Revankar, second grade, James F. Bay Elementary, Seabrook, TX (K-3rd grade category); Hanna Thistle, fifth grade, The Meadows School, Las Vegas, NV (4-6th grade category); Saumya Keremane, seventh grade, Amelia Earhart Middle School, Riverside, CA (7-9th grade category); and Ilana Tavshunsky, Grade 10, University of Toronto Schools, Toronto, Ontario (10-12th grade category). Convening Biotech's Future Women Leaders
The Biotechnology Institute held "BioNOW" (Biotechnology Network of Women), a leadership training program for women biotechnology professionals, December 3-4 in San Carlos, CA. The program allowed approximately 40 participants from around the country to develop skills that can lead to executive level industry positions as research scientists, business managers, HR officials, and other types of senior management roles. Program sponsors are Nektar Therapeutics and Life Technologies Corporation.
