B.S. Materials Science and Engineering – University of Florida
M.S. Biomedical Engineering – University of Michigan
What was your favorite subject in grade school, middle school, high school?
Math, for the most part.
Who was your favorite K-12 teacher, and why?
I have quite a few EQUAL favorites. My favorite teachers were greatly passionate about the subjects that they taught and searched for unique methods to translate this passion to their students.
What would you say is the MOST important characteristic of a great mentor?
I think the most important characteristic of great mentors is the ability to help their protégé grasp a hidden aptitude and perform at full potential by doing so.
If you could choose one other career (something other than science) what would it be, and why?
I would choose the career of a graphic designer, because it allows you to use design as a limitless tool to make communication colorful.
If you could give ONE piece of advice to students younger than yourself who want to go into science, what would that be?
Take advantage of the many opportunities to obtain actually research experience in your scientific field of interest so that you can develop a greater appreciation for the science and its potential impact.
When you graduate, what do you regard as the MOST important contribution you can make to society?
I view being a mentor for peers and young students as the most important contribution, since it will allow me to expand upon the cycle of success that mentoring relations readily permit.
When you turn 50 years old, what do you MOST want to be able to say about your life?
I would be honored if people would refer to me as a selfless individual who strived to make significant contributions to bring awareness to the importance of serving the community at all tiers.
