The sanofi-aventis Midwest Regional BioGENEius Challenge is a competition for high school students who are doing outstanding research in biotechnology in the Midwest.

The Midwest region includes the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin.

To reach the sanofi-aventis Midwest Regional BioGENEius Challenge, you follow this path:

  1. Submit your application and research project description for state judging. Submissions must be postmarked by January 23, 2009, and arrive to the Biotechnology Institute by January 30, 2009.

  2. If you are selected as one of the two state finalists, you are elibile to receive a $400 travel award and an invitation to compete in the sanofi-aventis Midwest Regional BioGENEius Challenge.

Two regional finalists from the Midwest will receive an all-expense paid trip to compete at the sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge, which takes place during the Biotechnology Institute's Annual Conference on Biotechnology Education in Atlanta, GA (May 16-18, 2009).

The first place winner of the sanofi-aventis International BioGENEius Challenge receives a $7,500 cash award. Other awards include $5,000 for second place, $2,500 for third place, and $1,000 for fourth place. Each remaining finalist will receive a $500 Honorable Mention Award.
